Gary Whitaker

Solicitor / Personal Injury Department Head

Gary joined Dunn & Baker in April 2017 as head of our Personal Injury Department. Gary moved from a specialist personal injury firm in Taunton. He started his working career serving two years with the South African Defence Force before taking time to travel in both Africa and Australia. Gary subsequently studied for his law degree in London. Upon qualification he worked for a law firm in Surrey and then for a firm in Plymouth. He has now relocated to Somerset with his wife and two children.

Gary specialises in serious and catastrophic injury cases, industrial disease and asbestos related injuries, accidents at work, RTA, motorcycle and cycling accidents; injuries to children, claims brought under the Animals Act, highway tripping claims, product liability claims and claims against property landlords and fatal accident claims.

Gary was initially introduced to the legal process when seriously injured in a road traffic accident as a boy. He naturally understands the effect an injury can have on someone and their family. He was then introduced to studying law when training to qualify as a corporal in the Military Police for the South African Defence Force.

Gary feels the most rewarding aspect of his job is working with those who are injured to rehabilitate them and restore their health, quality of life and ability to work (as far as possible) and on top of that secure an appropriate compensation award for them.
