Consultant Solicitor

Steven is a solicitor and member of the Society of Trust and Estate Practitioners ( . He has specialised in Wills, Powers of Attorney and Estate Tax Planning for 15 years, including elderly client law and care home issues.

Steven is increasingly recognised as a specialist in mental capacity and Court of Protection work, and giving advice on the Mental Capacity Act. He has been appointed by the Court of Protection to look after the financial affairs of a number of clients who have lost the capacity to deal with their affairs, through dementia or brain injury, and presently manages over £3million of client’s money and property. His Court work has included representation on a Best Interests application to the Court of Protection about appropriate accommodation for a person who has acquired a Brain Injury due to an accident. Steven also advises Attorneys and Deputies on their powers to make gifts on behalf of someone else, for the purposes of saving Inheritance Tax.

As well as advising clients, Steven is a director of the Devon and Somerset Law Society. He chairs regular meetings of representatives from firms across Devon and Somerset to discuss developments in the law relating to Wills, Powers of Attorney and Property law, and his committee responds to Government consultations on proposed changes to the law and regulation.
