INTRODUCTION
Steven joined Dunn & Baker Solicitors in 2015 and is a Consultant Solicitor within the Private Client Department, predominantly dealing with matters involving the Court of Protection.
TRAINING
Having taken the Legal Practice Course with Exeter University, Steven qualified as a Solicitor in 2006. Over the years, he has experience working in the areas of Wills, Powers of Attorney, Elderly Client Law and Care Fees Planning, and is a full member of the Society of Trust and Estate Practitioners (STEP).
SPECIALISMS
Steven specialises in work involving the Court of Protection for those who have limited mental capacity through illness, dementia or brain injury. In appropriate cases, he is appointed by the Court of Protection to manage the financial affairs of individuals who lack the capacity to manage their financial affairs for themselves.
In addition, Steven also assists those looking to become Attorneys or Deputies and can provide support throughout the entire process; from making applications to the Court and Office of the Public Guardian, to providing ongoing advice and assistance during his clients’ appointment. This can include advice about making a Statutory Will (for someone who cannot make a Will for themselves), making gifts on behalf of someone else, obtaining the appropriate authority to purchase a more suitable dwelling, or assisting with the payment of care fees.
If required, Steven’s vast experience means that he is well placed to take the necessary steps to secure the appropriate funding from the local authority and NHS for each client’s circumstances.
APPROACH
Steven understands how difficult it can be when a loved one is unable to make decisions independently, for both the person themselves and those supporting them. He works to make what can be a very hard time as easy and stress-free as possible for everyone involved.
